Pada tahun pertama, 170 peserta magang terdaftar dalam program-program ini. Sejak itu, IPN berkembang dengan lebih dari 20 kursus kejuruan yang sekarang terbuka. Balai latihan kerja ini telah meluluskan siswa magang yang 92% adalah warga asli Papua. Sebagian besar alumni institut ini diserap oleh PTFI dan para kontraktor rekanan. Lembaga ini juga merupakan pelopor dalam mengembangkan standardisasi tes penilaian kerja di Papua. Diadaptasi khusus untuk tes bakat dan kemampuan untuk melatih, tes ini mengarah langsung ke program magang atau pra-magang. Andi Sallo selaku koordinator pemagangan di Institute Nemangkawi mengatakan institut ini memberikan kesempatan bagi para putra-putri Papua untuk mendapatkan pekerjaan karena di sana mereka dilatih dan diasah keterampilannya agar dapat bersaing dan meningkatkan kualitas SDM Papua. Sementara itu, berdasarkan data dari Freeport, total dana pengembangan masyarakat dari 1992 hingga 2020, perusahaan ini telah menggelontorkan uang US$ 1,79 miliar untuk pemberdayaan masyarakat. Pemberdayaan itu meliputi sektor kesehatan, pendidikan, ekonomi, dan infrastruktur. Pemberdayaan masyarakat dibangun Freeport puluhan tahun agar masyarakat Papua semakin mandiri. Namun tambang terbuka Grasberg telah tutup pada 2020 lalu. Ditambah lagi, Jokowi hanya memperpanjang kontrak tambang Freeport hingga 2041 dan masih belum diketahui rencana selanjutnya. Menyikapi hal ini, pemberdayaan bukan hanya bertujuan memberikan dukungan ekonomi dan menyejahterakan, melainkan juga memupuk kemandirian dan wirausaha.
